Brother Iota

Brother Iota: Rebirth

After nearly eight years out of the local music scene, Brother Iota is back. For a time, the original trio and later the quartet, was a ubiquitous fixture on the First Fridays Gallery Walks in the Crossroads District of Kansas City, Missouri. They played venues from Columbia to St. Joseph and did special shows with the KACICO Dance Company of K. C.

Brother lota specialized in improvisational rock and space music, occasionally touching on jazz and fusion. As jobs, careers, and family took precedence in its member's lives, the band was forced to go into an extended hiatus. After their last performance at a Columbia venue on the shores of the Missouri River, the band morphed into the River Cow Orchestra as the core members of Brother lota began looking into improvisational jazz and fusion as a way to continue to play and reach other audiences. Over time most all the previous Brother lota members joined the River Cow Orchestra on its new adventure standing in for each other or lending a hand for studio recordings.

Now Brother Iota released its first CD in over seven years, "Rebirth." All the original members of its various forms are featured on the new CD:  Don Rolling, guitar, Don McCarter, bass, Michael La Grega, synths and violin, Brent Bowman, keyboards, and Greg Field, drums. Ryan Jones was the only original player unable to record-his wife had just given birth at the time of the studio project. The band is hoping to add Ryan to the next CD and on gigs.
